Recycled Egg Carton Animals
Recycle all of those egg cartons from Easter to make Recycled Egg Carton Animals. These adorable little critters are fun for the kids to make and use as decorations for their room or to play with.
Supplies
You will need the following items for each animal and the individual paint colors and other items are listed under their specific critter.
egg cartons
scissors
glue
paintbrushes
Bunny
paint (white and black)
white pom pom
Chick
paint (yellow and black)
Owl
paint (aqua, yellow, white and black)
Instructions
Bunny
Remove the top half of the egg carton and save if making animals other than bunnies. Cut out 3 individual cups from the bottom half of the carton, using scissors. Trim the rim and remove. For the body, stack 2 of the cups together so the openings meet. Glue together then set aside.
Using the third cup, leave one half intact for the face. Keeping the halves attached, cut out 2 ears from the other half (refer to photos).
Paint all pieces white and allow them to dry. Once dry, paint the inner ears and nose pink then add pink blush to the cheeks. Dab on 2 dots of black paint for the eyes then allow paint to dry.
Attach face piece to body, adhere with glue then add a pom pom in the back as the tail.
Chick
Cut out 2 individual cups from the bottom half of an egg carton using scissors. Trim the rim and remove. For the body, stack 2 of the cups together so the openings meet. Glue together then set aside.
To make a beak, cut out a small, triangular shape—about ¼" long—from the top half of the egg carton. Adhere it to the face slightly above where you glued the two halves of the cup together.
Paint the chick yellow, allow it to dry then dab 2 small dots of black paint above the beak for eyes.
Owl
Cut out 2 individual cups from the bottom half of an egg carton using scissors. Trim the rim and remove. For the body, stack 2 of the cups together so the openings meet. Glue together then set aside.
To make a beak, cut out a small, triangular shape—about ¼" long—from the top half of the egg carton. Paint it yellow, allow it to dry then adhere to the face slightly above where you glued the two halves of the cup together.
Paint the owl aqua, allow it to dry then paint black ‘feathers’ on the tummy. Paint two white flower-like eyes above the beak. Once dry, dab on two small dots of black paint for pupils.
Editor's Note: You can use black fine point markers for small details instead of paint.
