Cup Weaving
Cup Weaving came from our newest contest winner Jasmine from Chicago, Illinois. Here are the comments from her teacher: “I am an elementary art teacher. I teach k-7th grade in Chicago, IL. I absolutely love teaching and working in my studio. My student Jasmine whose artwork is featured is in 7th grade and is a fantastic artist who creates all types of beautiful art pieces but enjoys focusing on drawings and comics.”
Supplies
Plastic cup or paper cup (I prefer paper because there are no sharp plastic edges)
Marker
Yarn
Scissors
Instructions
1. Place cup upside down on printed template, centering the mouth of cup within the circle.
2. Mark cup at each dividing line with marker
3. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 at base of cup.
4. Cut down sides of cup at each mark from mark at mouth of cup to mark at base of bup leaving approximately 1/4" uncut at base. You will have 11 weaving strips.
Editor's Note: For those who do not know how to weave I offer the following instructions:
Begin wrapping the yarn in and out of the cup prongs starting at the bottom. Leave your loose ends inside the cup for a smoother look on the outside Continue wrapping, pushing the yarn snug against the row below it. Change colors periodically for an interesting look, always leaving the loose ends inside.
If you want a cleaner look, trim the ends fairly short and put a tiny dab of tacky glue on them and smooth against the side.
