Rolled Gauze Sheep and Shepherd
Contest winner, Grace, from Columbia, Maryland submitted this Rolled Gauze Sheep and Shepherd just in time for Christmas. Grace is an active seven-year-old who enjoys art, swimming, and playing with dolls.
Supplies
For Sheep:
White gauze roll (from First Aid kit)
Black felt
Googly eyes
Black fuzzy craft stick (pipe cleaners)
Hot glue
For Shepherd:
Small rectangular form (building blocks work great or make out of clay)
Small doll head (can be bought cheaply in any craft department or shape from clay)
White or off-white felt
Gray felt
Brown embroidery floss or yarn
Brown fuzzy craft stick
Brown and red felt tip markers
Hot glue
Instructions
For Sheep:
Decide how large your sheep will be and cut gauze into a rectangle. Roll the gauze over 2-4 times and hot glue lengthwise across the roll.
From the black felt, cut a face, ears, and tail. The ears and tails should be small tear drops. The face is a half oval.
Stick googly eyes onto face.
Hot glue face onto front of gauze roll.
Hot glue ears beside face.
Hot glue tale onto back of gauze roll.
Cut a black fuzzy craft stick into four small pieces. Attach to underside of sheep using four dots of hot glue. When the glue is dried, maneuver the legs until the sheep can stand.
For Shepherd:
If not using prepared shapes, shape body and head from clay. If using building block and doll head, skip directly to Step 2.
Cut white felt square in a piece just large enough to wrap around shepherd body. Hot glue into place.
Cut gray felt in a piece just large enough to wrap around white felt. Put one drop of hot glue on the center of the chest and attach one side. Put second drop of hot glue directly on top of the first and fold robe over.
Cut brown fuzzy craft stick just large enough to wrap around waist leaving a small tail. Cut the remainder of the fuzzy craft stick into a piece just long enough to shape into a shepherd's staff that will come up to his chin. Insert staff into belt.
Draw a face on the shepherd's head using the brown and red felt tipped pens.
Cut a small amount of brown yarn or embroidery floss and glue on top of head.
Cut a small felt rectangle to glue over head.
Feel free to substitute colors and enjoy your craft.
