President’s Day Necklace or Lanyard Craft
President’s Day celebrates the birthdays of both Washington and Lincoln. This President’s Day Necklace honors both presidents with their own coin attached. Boys and Girls both will have fun making and wearing this necklace as they take a closer look at what is on the coins they handle every day. The boys might want to make their cords longer so the craft appears as a lanyard.
Trivia:
In 1909, Abraham Lincoln replaced Liberty on the penny. Presidents then appeared on other denominations: the quarter in 1932; the nickel in 1938; the dime in 1946; the half dollar in 1964; and finally, the dollar in 1971. Liberty last appeared on a circulating coin in 1947 in the final year of the Walking Liberty half dollar. Source: United States Mint – History of U.S. Circulating Coins.
