With this Repurposed Jump Rope Coaster Craft show the kids how a trip to the Dollar Store with very little cash can result in some great craft materials. They may also have one at the bottom of an old toy box that has been long forgotten. Kids will learn how to look at items and say “how can I use this in a different way”. They will also learn the value of money and recycling when they craft with repurposed materials.

Trivia:

Jump rope has been an activity that has existed for centuries. There is not much written history of the sport, but it can be traced back as far as the 1600s in China (Rope Skipping History, 2015). It was a pastime that many of the children took part in during the Chinese New Year’s Festivals. Jump rope came across the Atlantic with the Dutch in the late 1600s. Once they settled in America, children were seen jumping and developing games with songs to keep themselves engaged. Supplies
  • Thin Jump Rope
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors
Instructions
  1. Cut the handles off of the jump rope.
  2. Put a dab of hot glue on the end of the jump rope and start to coil.
  3. Continue adding a dab of glue as you coil the rope into a coaster.
  4. Finish off with a final dab of glue and let dry.
