This Beaded Gecko Pattern is a fun and colorful bead craft for kids, teens, and even adults who enjoy creative projects. It is a great way to use leftover pony beads and make a cute backpack charm, zipper pull, or small handmade gift. Change the colors to create your own custom gecko and make each one unique.
This easy craft for kids also helps build fine motor skills, pattern recognition, and hand-eye coordination while they create.

Supplies
- 22 light green pony beads
- 2 light blue pony beads
- 21 orange pony beads
- Satin cord cut to 1.5 yards
- 1 lanyard hook
- White glue
- Scissors
It is always helpful to have a few extra beads on hand in case any get lost.
Instructions
- Cut the satin cord to 1.5 yards. Stiffen both ends with a little white glue and let them dry. Lace on 2 pony beads and the lanyard hook.
- Take the right cord and lace it back through the 2 pony beads in the opposite direction. Pull snug.
- Lace 3 pony beads onto the left cord. Thread the right cord through those 3 beads in the opposite direction. Pull snug.
- Repeat the same method for the next row using 2 beads.
- Lace 4 pony beads onto the left cord.
- To make the first front leg, loop one cord around and lace it back through the first bead on that side. Pull snug.
- Repeat on the other side to make the second front leg.
- Lace 3 pony beads onto the left cord. Thread the right cord back through in the opposite direction. Pull snug.
- Repeat for the next row with 2 beads.
- Make the back legs by repeating the same process used for the front legs.
- Lace 1 pony bead onto the left cord. Thread the right cord through that bead in the opposite direction. Pull snug.
- Repeat Step 11 for 4 more rows to finish the tail. Tie off the ends securely, add a dab of glue to the knot, and trim the excess cord.

Your beaded gecko is ready to hang on a backpack, clip to a bag, or share with a friend.
Fun Facts
Geckos are amazing little reptiles. Many geckos use their tails to help with balance while climbing. Some can also drop their tails to escape from predators. That makes geckos a fun animal to learn about while making this craft.
