Calico Card
This sweet Calico Card is a quick and easy Valentine craft for kids. It is a fun way to mix colors and patterns while making a handmade card for someone special. Use colored or patterned cardstock for a bright patchwork look, or print on white paper and let kids decorate their own designs.

Supplies
- Card stock or heavy paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils, optional
Instructions
- Print the card pieces on colored or patterned cardstock, or print them on white paper if you want kids to color them first.
- Cut out all of the heart shapes.
- Decorate the hearts if desired with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
- Glue the hearts onto the card front, mixing and matching colors and patterns to create a calico style design.
- Fold the card in half.
Fun Facts
The letter X became a symbol for a kiss long ago. In medieval times, people who could not write their names often signed with an X and then kissed it as a sign of honesty and trust. That is one reason X is still connected with kisses today.

Teacher Friendly Educational Extension
This Valentine craft works well as a classroom activity for practicing patterns, color recognition, and fine motor skills. Invite children to sort hearts by color, make repeating patterns, or count how many hearts they used on each card. Older students can also write a short Valentine message inside their finished card.
