Supplies

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 8 drops lavender essential oil
  • Food coloring or soap-safe colorant (optional)
  • Flexible silicone molds
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Airtight container

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, slowly add the water to the baking soda while stirring constantly. Mix until it forms a thick paste. It should hold its shape when squeezed in your hand and feel more dry than wet. Add a little more water or a little more baking soda if needed to get the right texture.
  2. If you would like to add color, mix in a drop or two of food coloring or a soap-safe colorant. Stir well until the color is evenly blended. For multiple colors, divide the mixture into separate bowls and color each one individually.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the silicone molds. Pack it down tightly so the shower bombs will hold together well.
  4. Let the molded pieces dry completely. This may take up to two days. If you need them sooner, an adult can bake them at 200 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes. Let them cool fully before handling.
  5. Add a couple drops of lavender essential oil to each shower bomb. Carefully remove them from the molds and store them in an airtight container until you are ready to use or gift them.
  6. Tip: Use gel food coloring for brighter colors without adding too much liquid. Too much liquid can make the mixture too wet and harder to mold.
